Worked up over summer stress?
Summer tends to be the Darth Vader of our mental health. It sneaks up on us, promises to be relaxing, then stabs us in the back.
At work, we suddenly find piles of papers stacking up from the employees who are on vacation – and who can do the work but you? At home, the kids are back, family is visiting, and all you want to do is relax, but your mind keeps going to that stack of papers…
Don’t let this summer become your personal Darth Vader. Try these quick tips:
1. Make a schedule and stick to it. When you’re at work, focus on work. When you’re not, focus on relaxing with your family.
2. Make a priorities list. Instead of tasking yourself with everything you have to get done, write down everything you would like to get done. Write down the day it should be done, and prioritize your list. If your number one goal is due in a month, but your number two goal is due in two days, now you know what to focus on!
3. Make time for yourself. Try something new. Many common ways to handle stress are through exercise or meditation; you can also try hobbies that help release dopamine, like dance, knitting, baking, or reading.
