Imagine waking up in the morning. What’s the first thing you do? Do you go to the bathroom, brush your teeth, or grab coffee?
Personally, I check my phone.
I check my email, social media, and calls to find out what I missed. Which clients called me? What prospect finally opened that email? Who liked that ad? Which one of my posts is reaching the most people? I answer these questions first thing.
But social media didn’t even exist ten years ago. LinkedIn wasn’t the “latest and greatest”. However, people still got leads. What are some of the best ways to connect in a real, human way, in the middle of a world where people seem wary of developing a connection – unless it’s over social media?
Here are some ideas to get leads:
1. Coffee
Have you ever gone to get coffee at the local (fill in your favorite coffee shop) and noticed that one person sitting in a corner, on their phone, doing literally nothing? That person might be waiting for someone to talk to them.
What about the person who’s just reading a book? Try striking up a conversation with them. Who knows, maybe they’ll end up being a great connection!
2. Neighborhood Newsletters
Ever seen those annoying newspapers that your neighbor subscribes to? They probably subscribe because they’re actually interested in what’s going on in the community. Or they’re somehow forced into it.
Either way, take advantage; ask if you can publish articles in those newsletters. Those headlines will catch folks’ eyes.
3. Stories
Everybody has a story, and there is a story behind everything. What is the story behind you? Why did you start your business? What is your passion? What is your “why”?
Whatever that is, use it. That is powerful. Your creation story is useful and necessary. Put it out there, on Facebook, on Instagram, on LinkedIn, on your blog; talk about how you started and WHY.
4. Blogs
Since I’m writing a blog, I might as well tell you about why I’m writing it. It’s because blogs reach people; they’re getting more and more popular each day. Sometimes this turns into leads. Unfortunately, there are a ton of blogs out there, so make sure you’re writing often.
Post links to your blogs on other social media. Use Lumen5 to turn your blogs into videos. Post those too. Keep blogging, make sure to blog at least once a week; more often if possible.
5. Podcasts
If you have so much advice that you can’t write it all down, try starting a podcast! They’re pretty popular and are sold often through Apple. Make the podcast centered around your business, and be sure to talk about something unique each day. Post weekly, and invite others to come and speak on your podcast with you.
Well, that’s all I’ve got for today. Have a great time trying out these five unique tips!
